Stu Ellis Meets With Matt Barnard of Crop Copter
Matt Barnard always wanted to farm but one day his life changed when a drone salesman tried to sell him one he thought was overpriced.
I would love to say Crop Copter was started because we had an awesome idea and we really wanted to change the way people farmed. It’s evolved into that but we really started because somebody was taking advantage of growers and trying to sell something in a product that was about 20x what it actually was worth.
And with Matt’s energy and out of his colleagues Crop Copter has an international footprint.
And we’ve started with really zero UAV experience, now we have about 20 different models which we support and we have dealers virtually all throughout the Midwest and in six different countries. And so Crop Copter really has evolved into a family of folks that believe much like we do, where we don’t exactly know where this technology is ultimately going to end but we know how we need to be curious and using it. It’s my love, I mean I’m still an active producer with my family in our farm in Channel Illinois.
In the formula for company success is alliances with others.
The good folks at Agri Bowl have helped us hatch out and they’ve designed the software called Pocket Drone Control, something very local. I worked two Champaign County companies that are really changing the way we farm.
That’s our Harvest Heritage report, I’m Stu Ellis for WCIA 3 your local news leader.
